 John Cody's Alerts!

Count-Down Alert

This screen allows you to create a new Count-Down timer that will alert (trigger) you when the time reaches 0:00 (H:MM). This can be handy to remind you of soon-to-occur things like when a parking meter needs more money, or when the wash is done.

You can specify Pre-Alerts that will notify you of an approaching main alert. So, for example, if you setup a timer for 2 hours, you can also specify that you want to be notified 5 minutes before the 2-hour period ends. The "action" (i.e. Play a sound/vibrate) that the pre-alert will do is configurable in the "Pre-Alert Settings" section of the program options (Menu....Options).

Alert Memory - when select Add me to History, all of the current alert settings, including the title will be saved in a special memory for rapid future recall. This can come in handy if you need the same timer often. You can recall previously-saved count-down timers by selecting Display History from the Menu, or by pressing the [Action] button (often labeled "OK") while the focus is in the "Title" field of a new alert.

Alert Actions: - You can over-ride the default alert action settings (that you specified in the "Default Alert Settings of the program options) by manually selecting custom ones from the settings below:

  • Sending an SMS - If you select "Send an SMS Message"  for the Alert action, the display will change and allow you to enter a mobile phone number and text message to send when the alert triggers. To quickly fill in the Mobile Number, Alerts! can display a list of everyone in your Contact list that has a Mobile Number. Just press "OK" (Action) or select "Display Contacts" from the Menu to pop-up this list. Alerts! supports quick-jumps keys, so for example, if you press the "5" key, the list will jump to the first entry that starts with the letter "J". Pressing the "5" key again, will jump the list to the first entry starting with the letter "K" and so on, and then loops back. When you have filled in the mobile number and message text, click "Start" to start the timer.  When the timer reaches 0:00, it will send the SMS message to the selected person, then perform whatever "Dismiss" action you specified (i.e. Delete or Disable the alert).
  • Power-Off Phone - This action will power off your phone when the alert is triggered. There is no "Power-On Phone" because once the phone is powered off, Alerts is no longer running, so it is unable to trigger another alert.
  • Reset Phone - This action will perform a "Reboot" of your phone. By setting up an Alerts to reboot your phone each night, your phone will be kept "fresh" each day for more reliable operation.
  • Switch Profile - This action will switch your phone to another profile. For example, you could setup an alert to switch the profile to "Silent" at 11pm, then have another alert set it to "Normal" at 7am, so you are not disturbed by the phone ringing in the middle of the night.
  • Open/Run File - This action allows you to open or run another program on your phone. For example, you could specify "wmplayer.exe" as the program to run and "Golden Years.wma" as the "Parameter" so that when the alert triggers, windows media player will automatically start playing the song "Golden years".
  • Sound Only - This will cause the Alert to just play the default or custom sound you specify when it is triggered. However, if the phone is placed in the "Silent" or "Meeting" profile, the alert will then just vibrate.
  • Force Only - This will cause the Alert to play the alerts sound file even if the phone is placed in the "Silent" or "Meeting" profile. This mode is useful as an alarm clock to wake up to in the morning, even when you phone was set to silent mode so calls will not wake you.
  • Vibrate Then Sound, Vibrate Then Vib+Sound, Vibrate And Sound, Vibrate Only - will do just what it says (vibrate and/or play the alerts sound file unless the phone is placed in the "Silent" or "Meeting" profile, then the alert will then just vibrate)
  • Loop Count - This specified how many time the phone will vibrate and/or play the sound file.
  • Default Sound - This will play the sound file that you specified in the "Default Alert Settings" in the program Options.
  • Record New Sound - By pressing the OK (Action) key or selecting "Record Custom Sound" from the Menu, you will be prompted to record whatever audio the microphone on your phone will hear. After recording the sound, you can either elect to rerecord it, play it back for review, or abort and the recording won't be saved. If you do select the "Done" button on the Record screen, your sound recording will be attached to that alert and will be played when the alert triggers. NOTE: Selecting another pre-recorded sound and saving the alert will permanently delete any previous custom recording you made for that alert.
  • Volume, Snooze, Auto-Snooze, Outlook Mode - Specifying a manual setting for any of these settings will over-ride the default settings for just this alert.
  • Dismiss Mode - You can manually specify the dismiss mode for this alert, including the ability to automatically re-start the countdown when you dismiss it.
