 John Cody's Alerts!

Default Alert Settings

This screen allows you to specify the default settings for new alerts. This can save time by pre-configuring the alert actions to your preferences when creating a new alert, preventing the need to keep re-specifying them for each new alert. NOTE: Alerts allows you to override these defaults on a per-alert basis so these settings should be configured to your most common preferences.

Default Alert Action:

  • Sound Only - This will cause the Alert to just play the default or custom sound you specify when it is triggered. However, if the phone is placed in the "Silent" or "Meeting" profile, the alert will then just vibrate.
  • Force Only - This will cause the Alert to play the alerts sound file even if the phone is placed in the "Silent" or "Meeting" profile. This mode is useful as an alarm clock to wake up to in the morning, even when you phone was set to silent mode so calls will not wake you.
  • Vibrate Then Sound, Vibrate Then Vib+Sound, Vibrate And Sound, Vibrate Only - will do just what it says (vibrate and/or play the alerts sound file unless the phone is placed in the "Silent" or "Meeting" profile, then the alert will then just vibrate)
  • Loop Count - This specified how many times the phone will vibrate and/or play the sound file when the alert is triggered.

Default Alert Sound:

  • Default Sound - This will play the sound file that you specified in the "Default Alert Settings" in the program Options.
  • System, Low, Med, High, Increasing Volume - Will specify the volume that you want the sound file to be played when the alert is triggered.

Default Snooze - Specifies what the initial snooze setting will be when an alert is triggered. You can still manually specify a different snooze time at the time an alert is triggered by using the left and right arrow keys in the Alert pop-up.

Default Auto-Snooze - Specifies what snooze amount will be automatically used for any alert that you do not act upon. The Auto-Incrementing setting will gradually increase the snooze amount for each successive unattended snooze, so that the phone's battery is not drained by a short-term repeating alert.

Time-Based Alerts:

  • Default Dismiss Mode - This specifies what should happen when you dismiss an Alert:
    • Disable when Dismissed - Will disable this alert when you dismiss it, preventing it from triggering again. Disabling an alert instead of deleting it has the advantage of allowing your to re-enable it at a later time without having to re-setup a new alert. NOTE: You need to enable viewing of disabled  alerts (via "Menu....View....Show disabled Alerts") in order to see them on the main screen.
    • Delete when Dismissed - This will permanently delete the alert when you dismiss it.
    • Prompt when Dismissed - This will allow you to select what should happen to the alert at the time you dismiss it.

  • Outlook Mode - This is an exclusive feature of John Cody's Alerts! - This feature allows you to create a Shadow Appointment for each new alert you create. A shadow appointment is an appointment that is created in the built-in Calendar database of your phone. These created appointments do not have a reminder alarm setup for them so that two alarms won't trigger for the same alert. Instead, the purpose of these shadow appointments is to allow you to see any upcoming alerts right from your phone's homescreen, because your homescreen is typically configured to show upcoming appointments from your Calendar database. In addition, if you sync with a desktop PC, these shadow appointment will sync over to Outlook, so you can see all your alerts from your desktop PC as well.

Event-Based Alerts:

  • Default Dismiss Mode - This specifies what should happen when you dismiss a Event-based:
    • Disable when Dismissed - Will disable this alert when you dismiss it, preventing it from triggering again. Disabling an alert instead of deleting it has the advantage of allowing your to re-enable it at a later time without having to re-setup a new alert. NOTE: You need to enable viewing of disabled  alerts (via "Menu....View....Show disabled Alerts") in order to see them on the main screen.
    • Delete when Dismissed - This will permanently delete the alert when you dismiss it.
    • Reset when Dismissed - This will reset the Alert so it will trigger when the event happens again.
    • Prompt when Dismissed - This will allow you to select what should happen to the alert at the time you dismiss it.
