John Cody's
Alerts!™
Run A
Program
This screen allows you to to select a file to run when an alert is
triggered. This feature significantly enhances the usefulness of Alerts, by
allowing it to control other applications that could perform actions that are
not built into Alerts (yet;)
For example, there is a popular freeware program called BTToggle, that
toggles the Bluetooth function in your phone either from on-to-off, or
off-to-on. Using the "Run/Open File" feature of alerts, you could create one
alert to run bttoggle at 11pm to turn off your bluetooth (to save battery
power), then have another alert run it again to turn it back on.
In addition, you could specify "wmplayer.exe" as the program to run and
"Golden Years.wma" as the "Parameter" so that when the alert triggers, windows
media player will automatically start playing the song "Golden years".
Many programs accept different "Parameters" to force them to perform a
specific function. Contact the maker of a program and ask them if they support
"Command Line Parameters". NOTE: If a parameter has any spaced in it's text,
then you usually need to enclose the entire parameter in quotes ("). Alerts does
this automatically for you if you select a file as a parameter.
The uses for this feature is truly limited only by your imagination. Have
Fun!
